LiDAR is an innovative surveying solution that incorporates LiDAR sensors, cameras and position/navigation equipment to collect point data quickly and accurately. Furtado & Associates (F&A) owns and operates a variety of Trimble, Leica, and Z&F High-Definition Laser Scanners which gives us the ability to collect large amounts of data in a short amount of time with a high degree of accuracy and detail. LiDAR scans can be quickly converted into topographical maps or 3D modeling of as-built structures to support further development.
From the point cloud we are able to deliver any requirements our clients may have. The benefit of the 3D LiDAR method is to data mine the 3D point cloud to provide as much detail as is needed for design. LIDAR scans are post-processed to provide enough detail to the basemap to assist in preparing the options analysis documents, as well as to provide location information and as-built information. This technology also helps to completely convey the existing conditions of critical locations along the alignment, such as a power substation and municipal water tanks, as well as existing topographic elements, pavement markings, lighting, signage, vaults, manholes and other utilities in the area. Recent representative projects on which F&A has provided quality 3D LiDAR scanning services include: Sound Transit LINK Light Rail (Federal Way Link, I-90 East Link, Tacoma Link), Seattle DOT Northgate Pedestrian Bridge, Seattle DOT NE 45th Street Viaduct, King County South Treatment Plant, King County North Lake Sammamish, and Seattle Public Utilities South Transfer Station. To date, F&A has provided numerous types of 3D LiDAR scanning, including treatment plants, roadways, trails, railways, and power substations. As the majority of projects are performed for public agencies and in Washington State, all team members are familiar with the relevant standards needed to successfully utilize 3D LiDAR technology. |
