Sound Transit Light Rail

The Link Light Rail extension projects will give riders a fast and frequent connection throughout the western Washington metropolitan area.  Furtado & Associates (as L&A at the time) has provided Sound Transit with land surveying services for multiple jobs including:
  • East Link extension
  • Lynnwood Link extension
  • Federal Way Link extension
  • University Link extension
  • Central Link extension
  • North Link extension
  • South Link extension
Responsibilities for these jobs included preparing a right of way basemap, ALTA surveys, monument surveys, preliminary research of maps and record of surveys, preparation of parcel maps and exhibits, right of way calculations, aerial mapping, as well as topographic surveys. F&A also provided topographic mapping, design data support such as digital terrain modeling, structural detailing and data collection for AutoCAD, supplemental horizontal and vertical control using GPS, and roadways to this project. Facility site surveys, utility locates, and borehole locates were also performed.

In addition, F&A prepared topographic/utility basemaps and property line determination/right of way plans for the light rail routes. Hundreds of parcel maps, legal descriptions, right of way exhibits for WSDOT, and right of way plans have been prepared for these projects. Surveying responsibilities included coordination with Sound Transit regarding right-of-entry to private properties for surveying, and boundary surveys to determine property & right of way lines. F&A prepared topographic base maps, including a Digital Terrain Model with 1-foot contours utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D.  Utilizing 3D LiDAR, F&A was able to completely convey the existing conditions of critical locations along the alignment, such as a power substation and municipal water tanks.
